Why did it start?

Good Grief Lyme Regis was launched in January 2026 by Sam, to provide support for bereaved adults in their local community.

Sam first found The New Normal’s grief peer support meetings during the Covid-19 lockdown. She had experienced repeated bereavements of very significant people, including her lovely Mum, a beloved friend’s young son, close friend Louise, and had been diagnosed with PTSD as a result.

Feeling that she had no support system for her cumulative grief and mental illness, and now also facing the death of her Dad and another close friend, Sam started attending our Good Grief meetings.

“I thought I was grieving, but was disassociated and disconnected from the pain and any processing of the trauma that had happened.

Attending TNN’s online peer to peer groups, I finally found a language and a community, to share and start to heal my complicated inner life, with complex grief and mental illness.

Feeling safe, comforted, understood and connected to other people, whose stories resonate with your own is life changing. Finding a sense of healing and support, in a society that doesn't nurture or understand grieving people is invaluable.

I hope that Good Grief Lyme Regis can end the isolation and help some in our community in Devon and Dorset feel less fear and more comfort, to nurture themselves in living their own ‘new normal’.”

Sam, Founding Host of Good Grief Lyme Regis

What to expect?

The meetings were created to give space to openly discuss experiences of grief in an empathetic environment, in the knowledge that they are shared with others who can relate.
